Bernadette is a staff and organizational development executive with 23 years of experience. She has worked with casino clients across the country for 12 years.

Scharpen is well known for her ability to partner casino properties with educational institutions, creating degree-granting programs. She has been credited with establishing successful tribal member mentoring programs and has developed curriculum for all operational casino departments.

Previously, Scharpen served as the vice president of education and performance for the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Indians in Minnesota.

A faculty member at the Banff Center for Leadership Development, Bernadette annually facilitates workshops, including Nation Building Through Strategic Planning and Leadership Skills for Indigenous Women.

Scharpen was recently recognized as Facilitator of the Year by The Pacific Institute, an international company specializing in personal and professional growth, change management and leadership development.

Scharpen was the director of education for an award winning home furnishings retailer and the manager of sales training and development for 29 Dayton Hudson Department stores.

Scharpen earned her bachelor’s degree in education from the State University of New York.
